Annual Day of Mourning
Updated On: Sep 23, 2020

April 28, 2020 - Day of Mourning

Officially, since 1984, labour has gathered to mourn those passing away due to workplaces accident or illness.  As a result of the Workers Mourning Day Act, we recognize Worker's Mourning Day each April 28.

Normally thousands of people pause to honour and remember those who have died, been injured or have suffered a workplace illness.  While we strive to elimate workplace accidents, we must refocus our commitment for stronger legislation and workplaces practices.  Everyone has a role to play in the workplace and our goal together is to ensure there are zero workplace accidents.  The COVID-19 pandemic is an example of how we must band together to keep our workplaces safe four ourselves and each other.

The team at Local 91 participated in on-line Day of Mourning cermonies today in lieu of attending the Vincent Massey Park annual gathering of labour due to the COVID-19 crisis.  Through the insight of our team, while practicing social distancing and safety, Local 91 placed roses at the actual site of the Injured Workers Monument.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who may pass by the monument today to mourn a loved one...

Stay safe - the Team at Local 91
